YOGA at STEEL DRAGONS MARTIAL ARTS
Steel Dragons Martial Arts is proud to introduce, Ms. Andrea Kirkham, RYT.
After years of attending yoga classes, Andrea became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level in May 2009. Through her training at YogaHom in Robinson Township, she learned how to share her love of this
tradition and make it accessible to everyone. She has found that regular practice has helped her become a better mother, wife and member of the world community and she believes that yoga can help every person to become healthier - physically and mentally.
Andrea teaches with an eclectic mix of styles with a playful and lighthearted attitude. She has studied the Hatha tradition, with influences of Iyengar, Ashtanga, Anusara and Yin Yoga. Attending workshops with Desiree Rumbaugh, Leslie Kaminoff and Master Paulie Zink, it has sparked a dersire in Andrea to learn more and she looks forward to many more opportunities to expand and share her knowledge.
What is Yoga?
Yoga is an ancient Indian body of knowledge that dates back to more than 5000 years ago. The word "Yoga" came from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite or integrate".
Yoga joins not only the body and the mind, but in many cases, it joins also the breath and movement. The practice helps the body to become strong and supple while flowing with the breath.
A yoga class may consist of the following: Pranayama (breath work), Asana (postures) and meditation. Focusing on the breath and listening to your body are the keys to good yoga practice. This allows all levels of students to come together and practice to their ability yet always find a challenge.
